Well sorted my issue with the twisted IDE cables by ordering @Badwolf's IDE board from PCBWay. Got a few spare boards now
Works great, getting transfer rates of about 1750kb/s now.

DSC_2766.JPG Bought this rather grubby looking device a while back, was having crashes and screen corruptions occurring rather randomly. Put it somewhere "safe" before then finding it a few weeks later. DSC_2785.JPG DSC_2780.JPG Took it apart removed all the sweat marks that came with it....

It shouldn't matter if you're using the floppy flip, d0 and d1 have a trace between them on the drive connector side of the pcb as well.

Third and last question, is there any precaution to follow if this pcb is used with your "FLOPPY CABLE FLIP KIT [0208]" Might be worth cutting the trace between the drive select pins on the floppy flip kit if you haven't already put it together. Otherwise the drive will respond to both A:...

If his example code on detecting TOS version and machine type on Atari Forum is anything to go by, as long as people are using maprom should be simple enough to change the version that's stored in TT-Ram. As he checks the version reading directly from ROM.
