No sound at all? Have you tried SCC games like Nemesis 2 or 3?

No nobody will care about the RTC function.
Only the msx2 standard will care about the missing 52 nibbles of storage!
You could always patch the bios to bypass it...

little bit of work this evening on the MSX2 support.... Using a hacked out version of fmsx i determined that while you dont need the RTC clock to be working you do need the CMOS to be present (at least as volatile RAM) or the machine will not boot. What's the plan - are you going to emulate the RTC...
