Wanted: old heavy 3.5" short button floppy

Post by thesofa »

I am looking for a NON-WORKING old heavy 3.5" Atari short button floppy disc drive to use as a floppy emulator case in my ST. I live in UK and I am happy to pay postage.
TT030 with Storm with 256 Mb Ram, Thunder with a CF drive and Lightning, HxC floppy emulator and one of Codekiller's magical Mono/Colour switchers, also 3 STS one has TOS1.0 AND 2.06 switchable with an HD drive, the other two are untested as yet, just bought for spares!!

You just bolt the emu drive in ? Or did you mean a external case ?

I mean an internal one but it has to be the one with the cast base. I remove all the gubbins from the inside of the drive, then cut off the back plate after i have drifted out all the brass support pins from inside, then file off the hooks for the springs and the L shaped support , then I plan to file the inside flat then drill support holes for the emu and make some support bases for the card and fixing.
Maybe its time for some pix?

Sadly it seems i have wasted my time, there is not enough height room to get the emu board into the case and still have room to get the USB connector into the emu board.
So please forget my request foe old floppy drives.
Next try is some aluminium plate i have lying around, watch this space!!!

If you have a 3d printer then there are a few STL files on Thingiverse that will allow the PCB from a Gotek board to fit into an ST

I'm confused as to what you're trying to do: my STE (short button) holds a Gotek completely unmodified.

No 3D printer here

Yes I know it will but I do not have a Gotek as I am trying to fit one of these

and also avoid cutting the case up too much.
Besides, I like playing with metal!!

The link prominently shows Goteks. :)

I assume you mean you just have the bare board?

Perhaps have a look on Thingiverse for the 3D-printable STLs and just copy one of those, but in aluminium! :P
