Bought two V7-Kits, one is ok, the other not.

Post by rene204 »

Hi. just a few Days I got my Package from Exxon Store with two V7 Kits for my Atari 1040 STF.

Build both the same way, one have a GAL, that looks ok, one looks irregular, this Kit doesn't working..?
Tested the Non-working Kit with the new (exxos Store) WD1772 00-02 and an older VL 1772, but nothing
No Floppy-Drive on Desktop after boot.

Maybe. a faulty or wrong GAL?

if I order two replacement GALs, are these programmed for this Kit?
Thanks Rene

Is the oscillator soldered on properly, it looks a little too far to the left, I do solder these on but I cannot check they are working without building up the full kit... You would need to check the clock input on the WD1772 (pin 18 on scope) to see whats there.

Without a scope it will be incredibly difficult to do any diagnostics to see what is wrong... Only thing you can do is to send it all to someone like @Steve to diagnose it all for you.

You may have some solder bridges and flux shorts. I would do a ipa cleaning with a toothbrush

Finally switched back to my own Solution, after bought a third one, and got 2 working with so many Problems on my 1040ST and Mega 4, using the Asci-Port (Megafile, Vortex, new Asci/Scsi-Adapter from Inventronic) and second Floppydrive (Gotek).

No MediaChangeFix, but thats ok for me.

Maybe my Problem is using Booster, Buffer and Floppy Kit and MagnumST Fast/Alt-Ram-expansion, all together.

No more Action needed.
