I will let everyone know if these are genuine (Assuming something actually turns up) ...And people can stock up on them... Then I will buy everything which is remaining

Ah right, I still don't know if it's possible that my machine could do harm to another shifter chip?
I guess if it's broken, it's cause I screwed up the soldering, right?
Also, remember I've got that led not working, which @exxos said is usually RAM/ROM fault.
Would it also not light up with a dead shifter? Or does that mean something else is broken?

Let me know if i'm bugging you guys with my questions btw!
Just really enthousiastic about getting my mess figured out :P

@Globox heres the problem, we would love to help you fix your ST but the next steps need an oscilloscope to test a few things out and then replace or fix things according.

You can of course buy a shifter, a new dma etc etc but the problem is that that might not be the issue at all.

If you can get a working Atari reasonably cheap then that's likely your quickest and easiest option, then after, use the broken one as a tool to learn electronics perhaps? Or send it to someone to fix for you. Fixing costs may be more than buying the new one.

No I know I need to get my hands on an oscilloscope if I really wanna figure out what's wrong wih my system, maybe I'll get one in the future!
But the thing is that I'm getting that new Atari anyways, and I need to take that system's shifter out if I upgrade that one, so I might as well put that shifter into my broken machine and see if it works again.
But yeah of course I only wanna do that if I'm sure I couldn't have put my Atari in a shifter-frying state when I screwed up the upgrade...

@Globox As you managed to break your current machine, I really would suggest you get someone else to fit the upgrade for you otherwise you may well end up with two dead machines.

I know :?
But even though I screwed it up, this upgrade doesn't seem like an incredibly difficult thing to do, that's why I attempted doing it myself in the first place...
Just made the incredibly dumb mistake of not testing my soldering job, but that mistake will definitely not be made again!
And hey, everybody's a beginner at some point right? :-D

Hey guys!
I've been practicing my soldering on a bunch of old/useless electronics, did the 4mb upgrade again (a new one) and the soldering looks really pro now!
Put it in my second Atari, and that one works, hooray!!! :D
But... I still got that other Atari I screwed up, and I wanna fix that one as well!
You guys told me I need an oscilloscope to measure some stuff out, but since I don't have that, I thought I'd just visit my local electronics repair shop and let them measure things out!
I don't know what needs to be measured in order to figure out what broke, so I was thinking you guys could maybe tell me what I have to ask the repair guy!
Or will that be too difficult for him if he doesn't have knowledge about how ST's work?
Thanks!

(PS, did those chinese shifter chips already arrive @exxos?)
