TOS 1.04 (UK) - 6 chip images

Post by JezC »

Hi,

I've already got one STF (originally with 6 chip TOS 1.00) which I upgraded to 1.04 (back in the very late 80s/early 90s).

I now have a few other STF/STFM machines with 6 ROM sockets that I'd like to upgrade to 1.04...and I'm wondering if it's worth me just cloning my existing set of ROMs or whether there are any 'improvements' publicly available that would be worth trying.

I have a number of 27C256 EPROMs available to use for this, so giving a few different versions a go is possible (I'm not that interested in the games compatibility for these machines, more for MIDI applications).

Does anybody have some suggestions/links to share here?

I'm not wanting to break any forum rules, so my default position will be to just produce more of the existing EPROMs that I already have access to but if there are other legal options available then I'd be interested to try them.

TIA

All the ROMs are mostly here anyway https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/forum/viewt ... f=25&t=116

But TOS104 I would just stick to on a STFM anyway.

Thanks - I will check if they are the same as the ones in my original (1987) 1040STF.

I thought I'd seen (somewhere) some comment about a modified version of TOS 1.0x which sowed an Atari logo during boot...?

I do know of an ex-forum member who is/was modifying the original TOS images./..maybe that is the dim & distant memory I'm referring to.

I'll report back if/when I have anything worth mentioning.

Peter was doing some TOS mods, but don't think ever released anything officially. I guess checkout his site and see if he mentions anything there.
