Burning ROMs to Exxos dual TOS chip

Post by marcofin »

Hi,

I have bought some year ago DUAL TOS board and DUAL TOS chip for my 1040 STe (162/206) in german language. As my Atari had QWERTZ keyboard. But I have no received UK keyboard and would like to change those TOS to english ones.

Is there any instructions how these 162 and 206 TOS images should be burned to that DUAL TOS chip?

I have EPROM writer with needed adapters. But I did not find how those images should be put together and burned to that chip? Or are those Exxos DUAL TOS chips one-time-write only...not possible to rewrite?

The ROMs I use are one-time programmable only.

Burning images can be done in a suitable chip, but this question crops up every few weeks, it is difficult for anyone to write a guide because of so many different programmers and software out there.

All images are here...

You create a file with one starting at address zero, and start the next one exactly halfway through the file at $4000000... You may or may not need to byte flip it depending on your programmer.

I'd recommend trying to source some 27c4096 EPROMs, as if you only have one time programmable (OTP) ROMs and you stuff up the image, then all you can do is bin it.

With an EPROM, you can at least erase it and try again.

Once you have got the ROM image working in the erasable ROM, then you can write it to the OTP ROM.

Hi,

I assume these would be ok also, or is there any speed limitations on ROM chips?

But for better testing, I would buy some erasable HN27c4096.

What is the rom size parameter to use with CartMan when merging, 512kb?

Yep, I will get some HN27C4096. And already used CartMan to merge ROMs. Looks ok on my writer, 2nd ROM starting from 020000 and ending 03FFFF.
