Static V SD Card.
Card corrupted again where the first patition suddely became unformatted (so no system)
Had to wipe all the partitions in disk management and am now reformatting it and will have to redo partition/driver etc.
I picked the card up off my table and got a shock through it.
Could such a thing make it fail?

Well, it's flash memory, so a shock could wipe a block of cells, and I guess if the address lines are all zero it's wipe the first one.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Re: The Cosmic Puppet's Universe.
Anyone got any ideas on how to ground myself at my desk.
I've just setup my SD card and basically have to get up, walk across the room to the light and discharge my static with my house key on one of the light switch screws before I take my card reader out of the USB hub to stop me zapping it.
Not very practical. A bit Monty Python. If I could zap another person in arms reach I would.

Isn't there antistatic spray or carpet shampoo you can try ? Short of changing the carpets to a more natural fibre, or underlaying with tinfoil and grounding it, I'm not sure there is much else you can do.

I tested not sitting in my chair and everything is fine. I'm going to try to put a piece of different meterial on it and see if that helps.

Seriously though, it could be some of your clothing, I have a shirt I wear to cycle in and the damn thing is a static nightmare.

I've got a black hoodie that crackles when I take it off. I don't wear that indoors though.rubber_jonnie wrote: ↑Sun Feb 20, 2022 12:27 pm

It's early doors but haven't had a shock since I put this small towel over my seat.
