mrbomber's Falcon service blog

Post by Steve »

I'm doing some work on @mrbombermillzy's Falcon, namely: removing old clock patch, installing exxos clock patch, fit new floppy header, investigate DSP issues.

I've always wondered what this SCSI capacitor mod was for, it's on most C-Lab falcons, @mikro do you know? thx

Time to investigate the DSP issues. Beforehand the DSP was not working at all, failing all tests. It was previously replaced by someone and some traces were patched.
I'm not quite happy with the soldering

Here I can see some bridged pins

I've cleaned up the soldering, removed any bridges and removed the patch for the clock pin because I didnt like the look of it. I've pulled the clock pin up where I'll run a patch cable to.

Okay clock pin re-patched. Now check under the board.

One of the via patch cables done previously are just sticking out quite far and doesn't look soldered properly.

And here we are, all safely delivered and re-installed at home (very hastily, I might add):

Just keeping this little critter occupied (currently watching the Hmmm... demo) was worth the price!

(Sorry about the blurry picture; too many 'sticky paws' on the lens I'm guessing. I wonder who would have done that?)

Many thank Steve! Just made my Christmas!!
