Falcon Clock Fixes

Post by GadgetUK164 »

Just a quick question - does anyone have any suggestions when these clock fix boards don't work on a Falcon?

I've all but given up and reverted back to the pull down / termination resistor I added in part 2 of my videos on the Falcon. I tried Edu's board previously - that wouldn't work at all (like the clock was messed up). Today tried Exxos latest board which I bought last week - that does work in that the Falcon boots and runs normally, however the DMA issue is there - just like it was before any fixes were done. ie. When using CT60e Quake freezes on loading, Demos freeze when loading etc. Removed the mod and fitted the termination / pull down again, and it's back to working 100%

I give up lol

My fix fixes all known issues. But did you notice there was a update recently to fit a 100K resistor ? also assume you have recapped the power supply and on no other modifications to it ? I also assume you actually followed the fitting instructions, some people start to " have their own ideas" on how to fit it and always end up in trouble

You did not stay which position you had the jumper in, see March 21, 2019 update

https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/atari/last/ ... /index.htm

100K fix is JUNE 1, 2021 - MODIFICATION.

It's using a mini ATX PSU, ruled out that by trying another 2 different PSUs. Didn't see a jumper mentioned in the instructions on the website there. Will take a look at the 100K resistor.

EDIT: I see the article further down about the jumper and the resistor. It's perhaps worth mentioning those at the top of the install instructions as it's not obvious.

I also suggest you take out the CT60 and run it as a stock machine and get that stable first.

Also have you run programs like DMA2DSP.PRG ?

Yes - it's definitely DMA related. I will have another go with that jumper and that 100K resistor at some point.

I am highly confident the 100k resistor should solve your issue. We've had a couple of Falcons that have needed that on the forum recently. Do that first, before playing with the jumper. Then play with the jumper if you still need tweaks.

Success - Just need to test over cold / warm cycles, but looks like the 100ohm resistor sorted it!!!

Thanks @ Exxos =D

Cool.. Assume you mean 100k ? Not sure 100R would even boot.
