Falcon dead :-(

Post by mcknopf »

Hello,

it seems that I killed my Falcon :-(
I bought some time ago the CT60e and I wanted to add switches for 030/060 mode and Power on/off. As the Power on/off switch that I bought has a light i tried to add Power to the light from the power adapter at the top of the CT60e but I did a short circuit. Now when I switch on the Falcon I have a blue screen with a red border in TV Mode instead of the start screen and the Falcon is doing nothing else.
I have this result with CT60e installed and also without the CT60e and the original Falcon PSU, so i know its the Falcon itself that is dead (hope the CT60e is not, its so difficult to get.

Anyone any idea what might be dead exactly? The memory card should not, as the problem is the same with 14 MB card and 4 MB card.

Hope it is something that I can order in the Exxos store ;-)

When you remove the CT60, did you put back the jumper on the expansion port ?

I took a look at my CT60e, it is not at the CT60e card but at the 12V to ATX Adapter/Converter a port for Harddisk and Floppy power cable. I think I shorted the 12V Pin to Ground

Now I found out to add images. The white port at the ATX Adapter is the one where I shorted and the screen looks like at the screen shot, sometime red sometime purple border and the same with or without pixels on screen

I still don't understand exactly what you are shorted out.. If you shorted out something like 12volts to the 5V rail then you probably killed the falcon bigtime.

Do you see the floppy LED blinking at all ( albeit very dimly) ?

When you look at the bottom of the CT60e image there is this white connector left to the power cable, that is where I shorted.
The floppy is doing nothing even not the motor running if I insert a disk. I know it looks like there is not 12V power. The fan at the mainboard is running (is ist 12 or 5V?). But I wonder that it is exactly the same with CT60e PSU and original Falcon PSU. I must look for an ammeter to test if there are 12V. Can it be that there is something broken at the mainboard that there are no 12V, a capacitor for example?

As it is late here, I will now go to sleep, thanks for helping very much!

I think exxos is asking which pins you have shorted.

Judging from the photo, your Falcon isn't that badly damaged -- Videl works, TOS init works, so it should fixable with some effort.

However if you managed to short circuit your Falcon during such a simple operation as installing switch, perhaps you shouldn't mess around with multimeter while your Falcon is running.
