TOS 2.06 and HD format option in Mega ST ?

Post by HigashiJun »

Sorry if this question has already been answered somewhere in a previous post, but I am just wondering if there is a way to get the Floppy HD format option in TOS 2.06 with a Mega ST ?

is there an equivalent of the E6 jumper, such as on the STEs, or E7 switch as in the Mega STEs ?

http://www.wrsonline.de/software/HDCOOKIE.LZH

It works with TOS 2.06 and TOS 3.06 but not with EmuTOS ...

This set the HD Cookie for EmuTOS.

Thank you !

A big step forward.

Is there however a way to enable it permanently on the motherboard ?

Cheers.

No, not without adding some address decoding circuitry.

You mean something like a TOS decoder ?

Slightly. The switches are addressable at $ffff9200 in TT and MegaSTE, so you would need to add logic to "answer" reads from that address with the right bitfield.

Also, since this is also the address for reading and writing to the extended joypad ports I'm not exactly sure how it's intermingled. Anyone?

Joy is read from databit 0-7 and switch/blob E0-E7 is databit 8-15 on STe schematics.

TOS 2.06 only reads those switches if running in on an (Mega)STE. Therefore, it doesn't suffice to decode that memory address on an MegaST! Your options are: a) patch TOS to set a _FDC cookie regardless (iirc, TosPatch has a corresponding option), b) run a program from the AUTO folder, as Frank already suggested.

Nice !

Thank you all for all this interesting feedback.

I will start with the AUTO folder way and then give a try to the TOS patch option.

Cheers.
