How to install IDE to CF adapter into Falcon ?

Post by Sinis »

Hello all,

I just bought https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/atari/store2/#0036 and removed the IDE drive. Question: How do I attach the adapter to the chassis?

I thought the holes would allow me to attach it with a few screws, but I don't see any holes available for that.

How did you do it with this Exxos adapter? Drill the disk holder? And if so, what do you put as insulation between the chassis and the adapter?

Thanks in advance!

Mostly people 3D print something to do the job.

Others may know better / other solutions.

Might be a bit crude - but I like to use double sided velcro tape on the bottom. It sticks well, is removable & shields it from the metal. The easiest way... But if I had a 3D printer I would do something with that. There are two types, the standard black velcro which has a lot of movement, or the white 3M picture hanging Velcro which holds solid, stiff as a board.

Another method is you can insulate the metal base with something, place the cf card drive down, then run two sets of zip-ties through the drive holes up and around securing it.

Alternatively automotive, double-sided foam tape.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

I tend to use double sided RC servo tape, though a 3d printed adapter would certainly be an option.
