Have you tried a CPU out of a STE (not the HC type) you may have socket issues... The old style CPU do fit the sockets better... I don't know if you had the sockets from me or not ? I assume the 3M ones I sent out are ok.. at least best sockets about..

I'll give it a go with the one that used to be in my STE (before booster)

I got the parts kit from you but the MMU socket was one I already had, 3M one as well.

I may need to change some of the DIL sockets as visually the pin gap look larger on some pins but all signals seemed ok. getting pulses on GLUE pn 26,25 and 23 but logic high on /DMA on pin 24, so my thinking was it was something to do with that.

I've learned all about /BG /BERR /BGACK /DTACK etc but some of the other GLUE stuff I haven't a clue on yet, hence getting an STFM to play with that I can compare it against as I keep messing with my working Mega's and will break them eventually if not careful.

A Lot of a chips could probably be soldered without sockets now anyway.

Well.....

Tonight I was able to make some good progress.

Thanks to Rubber_Jonnie I have a falcon ram board and have soldered 4mb of ram to it, which I believe works but need to check.

I found that the GLUE and MMU sockets had a few dodgy pins and it seems that the CPU is a bit dodgy, so swapped this for the old one from my STE.

I now have Rom access, with pulses on the /OE line . The screen is running in 50hz and now I have a black screen with a white border.

Can't remember if this is a Ram fault or not, so will check it out during the week.

Will probably buy another CPU from Exxos this week, so I have another spare for testing.

Might be time to post another screenshot this week?

Sockets are a total pain.. I'm sure you have seen my write up on it all... if you swap between the HC and original 68000 CPU you could damage the sockets where neither CPU will fit the socket properly anymore... That is the problem I had with my previous V2.2 booster chaos. Its why I opted for the expensive 3M sockets as they looked tougher than cheaper ones.. but I haven't dared take the HC CPU out of the socket to see if swapping damages them or not.

I remember you saying about that. I've been thinking of changing the socket as well thanks to all the abuse it's had.

Some good news tonight...
Not quite got the STF booting to desktop but it now boots the Diagrom to serial output and will also boot the atari diag cart.

With the diag cart I'm getting errors I2 and I3

I2 RAM disturbance 0000000000000000 0000000011110000 000730
I2 RAM disturbance 0000000000000000 0000000011110000 00052A

I3 RAM address check 0000000000100000 0000000001100000 000020

Is anyone able to help me interpret this? I'm presuming it's just bad ram that i've installed onto the empty falcon ram board kindly donated by Rubber_Jonnie.

P.S. good news is that the GLUE I thought was dead is most certainly alive and kicking. I picked it up by accident and put it in the STF instead of the one I had next to it and it all came to life...... Bloody typical :-)

Looks like 4 unsoldered or shorted data pins? What does a DiagROM ram check say?

Just resoldering the two sets of pins on the STF and will retry, will post the diagrom details if still no luck :)
