Thanks! I was running at 25, then swapped the XTAL to 50, just to make sure I wasn't using the firmware aimed at 50.

Could be a good video series, building all of TF's open source cards  :)

Does anyone have a link to the "RC2" firmware (for rev 2 - unless that's what was at the bottom of page 1 of this thread?)? It seems that whatever changes applied in later versions just dont work for me at all with this early rev 2 PCB.

Currently running at 25Mhz, and managed to get it do pass tests in DiagROM (albeit the chip RAM test seems to take forever?!?!). At the moment I've had to remove the RAM, and the RAM CPLD. Different firmwares just dont seem to work at all for me.

That RC2 build seems to have been lost, cannot find it anywhere =/

EDIT: I seem to now have diag ROM passing everything but this is how it behaves with Kickstart:-

With KS 3.1, yellow screen.
With KS 1.3, dark grey, light grey, then white - and if I am lucky it hits the FDD to try and boot but just hangs on a white screen.

This is testing with an A500+ that works perfecly with every other accelerator / CPU thrown at it.

Another question, what size resistor packs should be used with 25Mhz, or 50Mhz? I've had 10K on there, and 1K - both seem to behave about the same, but wondered if I needed 2K2 or 4K7. BOM suggests 10K...

EDIT2: Another clue, I noticed when scrolling up and down in diagROM menu the cursor goes back upwards when scrolling down too fast. Like there's some kind of timing issue related to Paula maybe?

530R2RC2.rar
(11.4 KiB) Downloaded 138 times
That should be fine.

People keep saying you only need INT2 for IDE?

#defeated

I've given up with this! I think its due to either 1 of 2 things. 1) It's an early rev 2 that needs a mod. 2) There is a defect on a connection somewhere from Dirty PCBs.

Basically I've ended up with the CPLDs flipped around, RAM is back on again. WIth the RC2 firmware everything works in Diag ROM, except no fast RAM. Zorro detect works and shows the 2 "cards" without issue.

But, I've got exactly the same behaviour I had right at the start where it hangs on the light grey screen booting KS1.3.

Ruled out the resistor packs (tried different sizes), ruled out the CPU, the FPU. There's a chance the RAM issue is the RAM is now bad, but it was behaving exactly the same regards failed boot without the RAM and without the RAM CPLD too, which may suggest two faults.

EDIT: I might just buy a "new" R3 TF530 PCB and move everything over to that.

Why not just go for a TF536 instead ? it's a more updated design.
