Well that's a decent enough price, but still expensive for a connector. I remember paying £3 each for them.

Thanks anyhow, just ordered some.

A1200 Connector Bulk Order

Post by alenppc »

There are a couple of places that will manufacture these connectors on order. We should figure out which ones and do a group buy. Pretty sure we can slash that price to 1/3.

Out of interest I enquired about ordering these connectors from China a couple of months back to test the viability of building anything for the 1200 and got the following response:

http://m.morethanall.com/product/index/ ... 60/id/4143

EDIT: The stock level on the above page seems to always display 0 available as they get them manufactured to order.

Unit price : USD $1.58/PCS .
Lead Time: 3-4 weeks
Minimum Order Quantity: 1000
(I assume there are also significant additional charges for import duty and delivery which would need to be factored in)

The UK importer/re-seller is www.toby.co.uk who quoted the following for the PCI-RBK-150:

Unit Price : GBP £2.40 each
Lead Time: 7/8 weeks
Minimum Order Quantity: 1000

(I assumed this quote was excluding VAT and delivery within the UK)

If you're buying a single connector for a one off build of an A1200 memory expansion then the 9euro + shipping Sordan option seems fairly reasonable considering. For any sort of scale it would makes sense to do a group buy as Alen suggested. I'm not sure if the minimum order quantity from .cn is negotiable but even if it is it probably increases the unit price.

Now that's more like it. $1.58 is a decent price. We could split this 3 or 4 ways between me, supaduper, 8-bit dreams or whoever else wants to mass-build 1200 expansions and it will come to a very reasonable cost. I would take 200-300 connectors depending on how many people are in.

The import duties will be the usual ones we pay all the time anyway. Your local VAT+handling fees (about 15% for me).

terriblefire wrote: Tue Nov 05, 2019 4:33 pm What is the unit cost on these? I'm considering doing a similar thing with these connectors as i did with the A3000 ones. Only downside is i'd need to charge VAT on each unit.
According to the last quote, it was 1.58 USD a piece per 1000 pieces min. If we pool the resources I can even do the purchase and distribute the connectors accordingly since my import fees will likely be the lowest (15%).

Great stuff!

Well..wich one is from china? THT or the type Kipper used?
The connectors available at http://www.morethanall.com/products/ind ... 60/id/4143 are 150 position through hole connectors of the type used on e.g. Blizzard 1230 MKIV and others - as well as the Edu Arana card.

It's obviously a matter of opinion but the through hole connector would be my strong preference for any A1200 card design. Straddle type connectors are somewhat nasty and were probably only used by Kipper2k as they were what was available - potentially a re-purposed PCI connector.

It probably wouldn't be a huge effort if you have access to Eagle to replace the straddle with the through hole. Looking at the Kipper2k layout there aren't that many signals going to the connector and they will be in roughly the same physical positions on the TH version so rerouting would be minimal.

Obviously easier said than done but... :)

I am currently negotiating with MoreThanAll for the connectors, it will take a couple of days due to time zone difference, and I am not really feeling like staying up all night for this one. The production time is 4 weeks so as soon as I am happy with the details I am going to order them and then we can split them.
