Welcome to Trudie the next IDE board.
Apologies Exxos and I seem to have started naming boards (wonder if you have spotted the other names out there). Trudie is a play on the words True IDE.
Thanks to all the BETA testers on the DEV board https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/forum/viewt ... &start=430 we have created the next version which includes all the fixes found during testing. Some additional features are hardware byte swapping and IDE Master / Slave ports at the smaller 2.5" drive cable pitch.
We have only just got two of these built and we now need to get them up and running to test further.
Trudie - The Next IDE Board
Re: Trudie - The Next IDE Board
So people understand byte swapping.. its to make cards PC & ST compatible without "software byte swapping" which is very slow. The swap will be done in hardware and so, no speed loss. The firmware will take care of all the clever switching.
I think getting away from all the issues in swapping cards between ST & PC needs to be solved. It always seems to much of a faff about in swapping files across. So once this board is finished, it will all be a thing of the past

Re: Trudie - The Next IDE Board
Exxos/ICKY... Very Nice, dual IDE, flash, and other goodies based on chip count.
Re: Trudie - The Next IDE Board
Thanks to Icky, this sexy looking contraption arrived today....
I guess I should try and do some firmware for it soon

Re: Trudie - The Next IDE Board
Wow!! there for a second I thought you lost the chip in the upper left corner from the first picture but after closer examination that chip was on the motherboard. Whew.. I need to get my eyes checked.
Re: Trudie - The Next IDE Board
You mean the ROM chip ? I've not programmed one for it yet.. I literally only just unpacked it..
It the same as the previous ide board only this is the next version which will have byte swapping. But no firmware at all for this current ide board yet.. Hopefully in a few days I can make a start.

Re: Trudie - The Next IDE Board
Brilliant stuff!
Seeing it fitted, though, I’m now sure this won’t fit on my C103253 board. Even if the angle was enough to avoid the MMU, the slot for the case post is directly above the 68000 on mine - right where Trudie would sit.
Never mind though - it’s a great bit of work!

A bunch of Ataris and others:

Commodore VIC-20 CR with ClearVideo - CDTV (Wicher 8MB+IDE)
Acorn Electron - Archimedes A3020

Re: Trudie - The Next IDE Board
I have been working on this all day and it seems the cupl compiler is messing up some of my code, I don't know why. The fault seems to on the previous IDE design as well. I emailed Atmel and asked about it..
Another odd thing I can't figure out, is the IRQ line on the CF card goes HI and triggers the IRQ on ACSI pin 10 (goes low) but it stays low all the time... as a result it stops the floppy drive from working
Its pretty much the same design and code as the previous IDE, so I have no idea why this new board is having all sorts of odd issues.
EDIT:
OK for some odd reason this seems to be relating to the odd compiler issue as well.. if I remove the problem parts of the code, then the IRQ line doesn't cause a issue..

Re: Trudie - The Next IDE Board
Which CUPL compiler do you use?
