The IKBD has been implemented in HDL and a small FPGA or a big CPLD could be used to get 100% compatibility without the need to source HD6301's. See https://github.com/harbaum/ikbd.
Thanks for the info / pointer. Will take a look.

Typical, I had a 1 in 3 chance of picking a particular colour for the test and I chose the one you don't like

Still plugging away at this one. A lot of my time on this is project is on placement, getting all the locations of the keys and other components is key, excuse the pun.

Latest fitting job is the joystick / mouse connectors. There will be the need for a raised pad to cover all the keyboard pins and the mouse / joystick connectors need to be extended down slightly in this rendered image to sit on that pad.

Modified my 3D print Function Key object to fit the cherry switches. Did a quick and dirty print to see if it fitted.

Looks ok, needs a slight tweak on the fitting and print in higher quality.

After the tweaks I can print F1..F10 out :)

Any chances that key caps models will be published on Thingiverse anytime soon? Even as a WIP project?

Continuing with the 3D model of the function key.

A bit of jigging around and printed out on the finest setting on the printer with a different orientation to have the print lines flow with the key top and it doesn't look half bad. Need to find an F1 stencil :)
