OOOh. Yikes. :o Does a X2 midi board work now? Seems that a socket for the MFP maybe in the way a tiny bit?

Some will for sure test that out... :D

EDIT: Hmm. It might go on top when I think about it a bit.

It seems a lot of people have missed a lot of threads on all this...

~ 55 boards were paid for on pre-orders, that batch has been and gone. (REV A3) . There was 30 boards of REV A3 manufactured .. it is all done and dusted end of story.. There are no more of these boards available and they have all been shipped out as of a couple weeks back.

There was about 15 orders still outstanding ( and this has risen to about 25 now). As the topic of this thread, H5 REV B1 Is currently under manufacturer.. Anyone who has not yet had a board shipped is automatically included in this run. People who are still buying will be included in this run also (up to when all 30 boards have sold) .

All this is done on a first-come first-served basis by who paid first.. The first 30 people who paid got the REV A3 shipped first. People who were slower to pay automatically get included in the second batch.

I do not yet know how many pre-orders there is left for the second batch, again it is first-come first-served basis to who pays.. If there are more than 30 orders for boards, this will tick over to batch 3, but I really cannot guarantee batch 3 will even go ahead because I need 30 orders.. So people who are paying late again will could end up waiting months before batch 3 three is done, if it ever is done.

For those who now wish they had paid later to get the REV B1 boards.. if everyone adopted that attitude, Absolutely nobody would have purchased the first board, and the project would have likely been abandoned.. We would not have found the errors and everyone would have ultimately ended up with a REV A anyway. Plus just because errors have been identified and solved on that board, does not mean there are not new errors to fix on the REV B board either. It is also worth noting that these boards are likely never going to be "final". I am already contemplating what the next revision of the board will be.. So technically even the revision B1 are technically obsolete now.. this is the "price" of progress.

The only alternative is I get a much smaller batch done of like five boards and build and debug them myself.. This likely will add several months delay to the project because my time is so limited to start with.. But it would also mean when the board do go into production, they would be even more expensive because I would have to recover the costs of basically doing prototype runs.. I may have to do two or three prototypes runs before I got to a "final" board. So you guys would end up paying more like £150 per board is people wanted a "final" board.

I am really annoyed that I screwed up those vias on the REV A3's, but At the end of the day, I'm basically selling all these boards "at cost" and the rapid development of these boards is only happening because of the support of many people literally "buying" into the project. I can never guarantee these boards will be error-free.. There are always changes and always advances, so the bodge wires will always be there I think anyway. If I waited until everything was perfect, as said above, the price would end up being extremely high to the point people would probably never buy the board.

I do of course appreciate a thank everyone who has invested their time and money into this project. If everything was down to me to build test and debug, then even the alpha files would still just be files on my computer and the project would have simply never got started.. The project is literally only ongoing because of continued support from people. So everyone should be very proud of supporting such a project! If there was not at least 30 people committed in buying H5 boards, they simply would not exist and probably never would.

Being an early adopter means you're an early adopter. I have one of the early boards here and might never build it up. I have already bought the B1 as well, spending my time on that instead.

It's what being supportive to the cause is all about. Some (exxos) invest their time, others invest just money. We all invest, without expecting any payoff besides spending time with our beloved Atari platform.
