VAT charges to EU states
Re: VAT charges to EU states
My next parcel was also delivered by Polish Post, with no additional fees. But once again, it has been transferred via Liege, and has the Polish Post sticker over the Chinese one, and no customs declaration at all. It had a declared value (for insurance) of 45€.

Another datapoint:
Shipping to Amsterdam, NL: I received my order without any customs hold-up or charges. Probably the low weight of the order and the 10GBP stated on the box is fine. PostNL willfully ignored the signature requirement, but there's a good chance that's just PostNL...
I recently had another item from a friend; notionally 30GBP, weighed about 2kg. For that, I had to throw DPD 13 quid to release it.
Re: VAT charges to EU states
Sounds like EU are still using the low value goods rules... But I honestly thought they were no longer doing this anymore..

Re: VAT charges to EU states
I posted a bunch of stuff to Ireland recently. I marked it as "for repair".. no charges.

Got a Jaguar SCART cable from Retrogamingcables UK. Took ages in customs, but was released without charge (unless that comes in a separate letter later, but they usually handle it digitally through the postal app).

Re: VAT charges to EU states
I have been told just that EU states are now charging import VAT when buying from the UK from 1st July.
I am not collecting the VAT ( I really don't want all the hassle and extra paperwork dealing with the tax office etc) But if I did deal with VAT, I would have to charge 20% on all store sales anyway. I would rather keep my prices VAT free in the store. People can expect from now on they will be charged ( I assume ) 20% import VAT, plus ( I assume) £12 handling costs.
So if you buy £10 worth of goods for example, you will get charged 20% VAT (£2) plus £12 Handling charge. So £10 goods will end up costing £14 in import charges. If you buy £100 of goods, it will be £20 + £12 Handling.
Really annoying in more ways than one, because when I purchased components I have to pay import VAT. I spent over £2,000 in charges a couple years ago. But then VAT is also added when you sell the stuff or people receive it. So it is like paying VAT on the goods twice all the time It's why I try and avoid sending goods to China as well now, because they get charged import, I would get charged import again on the same components assembled boards. There is so much VAT charges on every time you move goods basically wipes out the profits making it pointless doing it.
I can see my EU sales starting to rapidly drop once people realise they are going to get charged. But if people want the goods they will just have to pay the VAT charges. If people do not pay the charges and the package will bounce back to me and if it starts causing a lot of problems then I will have to think seriously about not shipping to EU any more.

Maybe you should add a disclaimer on the check out page of your website clearly stating that shipments overseas will be subject to VAT+fees and that you will not proceed to any refund for bouncing packages?
