STFM clone in Sprint

Post by rob.taylor »

Hey folks, I'm Rob (Peepo), otherwise famous for A500++ and "Sixtyclone" PCBs.

I stripped and started replicating a C070789-001 REV.B PCB. Just wondering if there's any point in me carrying on (apart from my own personal gratification)?
I've never been a big Atari user, but I like to mess about with Sprint and had this board "laying around".
Let me know your thoughts!

Here's what I did so far:

Interesting project and a thing of beauty!

I think when the Atari ST clones came out there was discussion about such a thing. The issue is that the those old STFMs have so many bugs in them that need patched we just chucked them away and did the H4/H5. Pretty much the consensus is that the H5 would be where someone would start for a new build. Especially as all the SMD stuff is already on..

I guess there's always people who love to have an 'original style' reproduction, so if you're enjoying making it I'm sure you'll find people who will also enjoy the end result :) But yes also feel free to check out the 'Atari ST Remake Project' here: https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=19

You're welcome to be part of this, experienced PCB designers are always welcome! I think Exxos has a list of interested PCB motherboard runs here: https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/forum/viewt ... =89&t=3680 if you want to add yourself to the list. The whole 'idea' of this new platform is 1* to do away with any legacy bugs and issues plaguing the originals and 2* to provide a platform for future development, ie; multiple new add-ons on the bus and 5v / 3.3v support.

Thanks for the replies.
As expected, there is already something more useful out there. I'll put this on the back burner and maybe update it now and then if I'm bored, which is unlikely as I have a bazillion other things on the go.
I'll do some more reading and maybe get involved.

Thanks again

Rob.
